UWC Atlantic College is not a place for the faint-hearted, nor should it be; it provides a very special kind of educational experience. Approximately 350 young people from over 80 different nations and from a wide spectrum of socio-economic backgrounds, cultures and creeds, congregate each year at the college. I suspect that, for a fleeting moment, many of the new arrivals experience moments of doubt, as they are deposited at the gates of a medieval castle. In no time at all, however, the warmth of the welcome provided by the second year students banish all anxieties, and the newcomers embark upon one of the most amazing and privileged journeys that they will make in their lives. It will not be easy, we set out to challenge, but it will certainly be worth it.UWC Atlantic College has been awarded the London 2012 Inspire mark, which recognises innovative and exceptional projects that are directly inspired by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.The UWC Atlantic College Associated Schools Programme (ASP) was developedin conjunction with schools in three of the more disadvantaged areas the UK: Birmingham, Liverpool and the South Wales Valleys – Pengam High School in Bargoed, Broadway High School in Birmingham and The North Liverpool Academy.Alexandra Bech Gjørv attended UWC Atlantic College between 1982-1984 and is also an alumna of Suffolk University Law School in Boston. She has been appointed as chairwoman of the international independent 7-22 Terror Investigation Commission where she will lead the enquiry
