Overview

We live in challenging times where the sharp tooth of competition is at every breast; where good manners and good habits are a rarity. It is therefore imperative, that we at the Swaminarayan School provide all the pupils with both the intellectual breadth and depth they need to satisfy their growing capacities and interests, cradled in the supportive atmosphere of our Hindu ethos that pervades the life of this unique school.Throughout their schooling here, all students will be made aware of our Hindu values and ideals. It is our hope that the discipline of Hinduism will work hand-in-hand with their academic and personal development, rather than as two separate entities. The Senior School pays a properly measured emphasis on the rigours of academic work combined with excellence in sports and the Arts. Children are actively encouraged to take part in a wide spectrum of cultural and sporting activities, so that, not only do they achieve the highest level academically for their ability, but are also well-prepared for the wider world in later years. The community spirit of the Senior School comes through vividly during its daily gathering in the Mandir for assembly where spiritual and moral values are stressed with particular emphasis on love for God and tolerance for all mankind. It makes for a happy togetherness that helps to raise the focus of each day. While young in years, the school continues to set new boundaries, allowing the pupils to experiences new challenges each year so that they are better prepared for the slow but sure progress into adulthood.Considering the fact that The Swaminarayan School in Neasden has been in existence only since 1992, the achievement of its pupils is nothing short of extraordinary. The school has always achieved excellent examination results and has been at the top of the Brent performance tables for a number of years. In January 2008 it was listed fourth in the table of top independent schools published by the Daily Telegraph. In 2009, however, the GCSE results surpassed all previous records. Fifty-four percent of the grades were either A* or A with many students achieving a string of A* and A grades.Pupils are encouraged to take part in a range of extracurricular activities including clubs, sports, drama & dance performances. An extensive programme of instrumental lessons, both Indian and European, is also on offer to all pupils. The school arranges regular day trips to museums, parks and other places of educational interest. The Duke of Edinburgh Scheme and residential outings are also a feature of the school.Over seventeen years of vision, investment and hard work from trustees and governors, teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as parents and pupils, have made this an outstanding school which continues to go from strength to strength. It occupies an enviable position in the examination performance tables year after year, with students gaining admission at top universities such as Oxford, Imperial, UCL, Warwick and the LSE. As a consequence, places are increasingly sought after, with waiting lists in a number of year groups.
