Welcome to the Read School website. Read School is an independent boarding and day school taking boys and girls from the ages of 2 – 18.Read School is a registered charity and exists to provide an education for its pupils, which is caring, inspiring and fun.In a small, caring school with a nurturing ethos and high staff to pupil ratio, it is possible for every pupil to have an influence. You are never new here for long and those joining the school are quickly assimilated into the busy routine. Everyone is important and everyone makes a contribution for the good of the school.Situated in the beautiful county of North Yorkshire, Read School has a long and proud history in the local area, being founded in 1667 through the will of local lawyer and philanthropist Charles Reade. Read School has been a focal point for education in the Selby-Goole area for over 340 years, firstly as Drax Grammar School, and (since 1967) as The Read School. It is now a fully independent boarding and day school for boys and girls, offering a wide range of academic studies at GCSE and ‘A' Level, together with a full programme of sports, drama, music, CCF and recreational activity. High standards are expected in all aspects of endeavour, and in behaviour and manners.
