Overview

Portsmouth College has been the sixth form college for Portsmouth since 1984. In September each year there are about 950 16-18 students at the College, the majority coming for Portsmouth schools and about 15% from the wider Hampshire area.The College has a well established reputation for its high academic standards and friendly, supportive environment. Over the years students have consistently praised the positive efforts of staff in helping them to progress towards success on their courses and in supporting their individual ambitions. Our courses.About 75% of students join the College to start level 3 courses: these include AS/A levels, Level 3 BTECs and the New Diploma courses. Range, variety and flexibility are features of the College's curriculum offer; many students take four AS levels in their first year but others combine AS levels with the more vocational BTEC qualifications. It is also possible for students to re-take important GCSEs (e.g. English, Maths or Science) alongside their main level 3 courses.Please see our Prospectus (page 14 in the 2010/11 publication) or website for details of entry requirements for level 3 courses.A full programme of level 2 courses is available for those students who need to consolidate the results they have achieved at GCSE.
