Manchester High School for Girls' Preparatory Department provides a caring, friendly and secure learning environment for girls. Committed, experienced staff ensure that each child is given the intellectual and personal stimulation needed to provide a firm foundation for future development. We encourage the girls to enjoy every aspect of school life with the support and guidance of their form teachers, the Head of the Preparatory Department and support staff. Our classrooms provide vibrant, exciting places in which primary specialists teach a broad and balanced curriculum. Girls enjoy the core subjects of Mathematics, English, Science and Technology, which are complemented by elements such as a Modern Foreign Language, Music and Physical Education (PE). In addition to sharing some of the superb facilities of the Senior School, the Preparatory Department has its own libraries, computer suites and music room. To broaden each girl's cultural horizons, interesting lessons are supplemented by visiting speakers and educational trips to museums, theatres and galleries. Girls are encouraged to read extensively and to take a lively and enquiring interest in current affairs. Social skills and confidence are visibly strengthened during each child's journey through the Preparatory Department. Many opportunities exist for girls to develop an enthusiasm for creative work, music and sport. They are encouraged to participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities, including instrumental groups, choir, speech and drama, hobby clubs and a variety of performance events. Our After School Club provides a high standard of organised activities and care, it is available every weekday on a regular or occasional basis.
