Course Description

The MSc Health and Social Care is for professionals working in the health, social and related public services. A range of professionals choose to undertake this course for example, nurses, case managers, community matrons, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists and paramedics. The course offers a broad-based field of study that is geared towards social care and will extend your knowledge and understanding in this field. This course reflects the ?QAA Draft Statement of Common Purpose for Subject Benchmarks for the Health and Social Care Professions (2004)? by encouraging shared learning for students from a range of health and social care disciplines. The programme?s linkage of the professional to their context focuses students? learning on meeting the needs of clients and patients within an environment that requires effective team, inter-professional and inter-agency working and communication, as well as expert practice. This new statement of common purpose is set out under three main headings: values in health and social care practice the practice of health and social care and knowledge and understanding for health and social care practice. The MSc in Health and Social Care is part of the MSc Professional Development framework in the School of Health and Social Sciences at the University of Bolton. Study on the MSc Health and Social Care will be a shared experience with practitioners from different spheres of health and social care, providing you with a unique insight into broader issues and practices across the health and social interface. You will be taught by a highly motivated academic team based in the School of Health and Social Sciences. You will also receive input from related subject specialists. The course will challenge you to take a critical approach to your studies and professional development, and will enable you to make practical and effective use of your learning in your professional role.
