Operational research is used extensively in both industry and commerce and plays an important role in the military environment. The increasing complexity and expense of new technology and the ever present pressures on available resources lead to increasing difficulty in military decision making. The Military Operational Research course provides opportunities for the modelling of specific systems and practical experience with relevant computer software. The modular form of the course, consisting of a compulsory core and a selection of other modules, enables students to select the course of study most appropriate to their particular requirements.

Normally a 1st or 2nd class Honours degree or equivalent in science, engineering or mathematics. Alternatively, a lesser qualification together with appropriate work experience may be acceptable.
