The Geographic Information Science MSc is designed to educate students in the theoretical, scientific and practical aspects of geographic information science, and covers a range of topics from quantitative spatial analytical techniques to web-mapping, mobile maps and location-based services. What and how will I learn? Students gain a solid grounding in the scientific principles underpinning spatial analysis and the computational foundations of GIS, as well as a broader practical understanding of topics such as the analysis of GIS user needs, modern programming environments and database management systems and their application within Geographical Information systems. Degree Structure Students undertake courses to the value of 180 credits. The programme consists of eight core courses (90 credits), optional courses (30 credits) and a research project (60 credits). Assessment is through unseen and take-home written examinations, group and individual coursework, formal and oral presentations, and the dissertation. Why should I study this degree at UCL?
