The MA in Applied Corpus Linguistics is a flexible programme that allows you to study corpus linguistics applied to other language areas, such as teaching and learning, translation or lexicography. You will study three core modules: Introduction to Corpus Linguistics: This includes the use of corpus access techniques interpretation of corpus data corpus-based theories of language. Research Methods in Corpus Linguistics: this usually includes statistics, use and design of programs, corpus collection and research project design. The module content is flexible to cater for the needs and interests of individual students. Applications of Corpus Linguistics: This includes a range of topics, again reflecting students? interests, but it usually includes: corpora in translation, cultural studies, historical studies, language teaching and language processing. You then choose three optional modules that can focus on a chosen area of application: Introduction to Translation Introduction to Lexicography Discourse Culture and Communication Language Description Advanced Lexicography Bilingual Dictionaries and Terminology Business English Computer Assisted Language Learning Discourse for Teachers English as a Global Language English for SpecificAcademic Purposes Forensic Linguistics Genre Analysis Intercultural Communication Language and Literature Management of Innovation Media Literacy Teacher Training Teaching Young Learners Please note that the availability of some modules vary from year to year. You will also complete a 12000 word dissertation.
